DISC GRANTED THIRD U.S. PATENT FOR NEO® MEDIA PACKAGE
New Patent Extends Protection to Other U.S. and International Market Uses

HAUPPAUGE, NEW YORK [December 14, 2015] – DISC, a leading source of specialty packaging solutions for more than 40 years, announced today that the company has been granted a third U.S. patent for its NEO Blu-ray Disc® package. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) approved the package’s third patent, which covers its unique composite material design and components, less than 18 months after DISC was awarded its initial patent for the NEO package.

“We are very excited to receive a third U.S. patent for NEO,” said John Rebecchi, senior vice president, marketing and new business development and director for DISC. “The initial patent, granted in November 2014, covers the overall design, manufacture and assembly of the NEO Blu-ray Disc media package. In order to strengthen the company’s development of the packaging for other uses and markets, we applied for and were granted an expanded patent to cover specific aspects of its design, components and utility.”

DISC Chief Strategy Officer Richard Roth concurs. “We are well positioned in the high-end multi-disc packaging market within the home entertainment industry. However, given the competitive nature of the industry, and the efforts of others to create packaging that could potentially compete with ours, we feel it’s critical to secure comprehensive international protection of our intellectual property. This new patent is a major advance for the product.” The company is also launching NEO-lite, an O-sleeve version for standard DVD and Blu-ray cases.

NEO’s signature design element that makes it a standout package is its proprietary PixelChrome™ mutli-layered technology. The newly secured patent protection on this composite is a watershed development. Incorporating highly reflective lithographic material, it provides a super-glossy canvas on frameless art panels to showcase title graphics. The seamless effect of multiple discs imprinted with the same graphics and held in embedded printed cavities adds to the dramatic impact of the product.

Disc Unveils New 6-DISC Neo®
Media Package A Potential Crowd Pleaser for Multi-disc Film and TV Series Compilations

HAUPPAUGE, NEW YORK [September 21, 2015] – DISC, a leading source of specialty packaging solutions for more than 40 years, announced today the introduction of an expanded design format for NEO® -- its patented digital media package. In response to market demand for more options in multi-disc packaging, the NEO package can now accommodate titles with up to 6 Blu-ray Disc® or DVD discs.

"We are very pleased to offer our home entertainment customers more choice," said Richard Roth, chief strategy officer for DISC and one of the driving forces behind the company's NEO package. "The market for 6-disc product, especially for film trilogies and TV series compilations, appears to offer serious promise," Roth added. "DISC is now in position to offer this product to our customers. We have the flexibility to meet expanded demand and are not limited to the original NEO design."

According to Roth, the initial development of NEO revolved around input provided by several major studios, defining opportunities for packaging releases with 2 to 4 discs. "We consequently developed a design and manufacturing plan for a basic NEO package with four panels that could hold up to four discs for film and video game titles. However, we kept the potential for future expansion and flexibility in mind. Our initial design, manufacturing and assembly systems had enough built-in agility to accommodate the creation of NEO packaging with 2, 4 or 6-panels and an equal number of discs."

This foresight appears to have been spot-on as studios focus on the release of special collector's editions of new and archival releases of popular films as well as multi-season

TV programs. NEO has already been chosen as a collector's case for special editions, such as this spring's Walmart-exclusive limited edition release of Interstellar (Paramount Pictures) and last year's Target exclusive offering of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Sony Pictures Entertainment).

The signature design element of NEO that makes it a standout package is its proprietary, patent pending PixelChrome™ multi-layered technology, which uses highly reflective lithographic material. It provides a super-glossy canvas on frameless art panels to showcase the beauty and excitement of title graphics. The seamless effect of multiple discs imprinted with the same graphics and held in embedded printed cavities adds to the dramatic impact of the film or video game product.

Disc Lands In The Gold With Interstellar Neo® Package
Winning a Gold Award for Multimedia Packaging at the 2015 Gold Ink Awards

HAUPPAUGE, NEW YORK [September 8, 2015] – DISC, a leading source of specialty packaging solutions for more than 40 years, announced today that the company's patented NEO Blu-ray disc® package has received a Gold Award in the prestigious 2015 Gold Ink Awards program, sponsored by Printing Impressions magazine. This award spotlights the special collector NEO packaging created for Paramount Pictures' popular space adventure film, Interstellar, which was produced for Walmart's exclusive limited edition release. It represents the highest accolade in the competition's Multimedia Packaging category.

"We are extremely proud to have partnered with Paramount Pictures to produce this award winning package and to be recognized by our peers in the industry," said John Rebecchi, senior vice president, marketing & new business development and director for DISC. "This year's prestigious panel of industry experts evaluated more than 1,000 entries in 50 plus categories on the basis of three criteria: excellence in design, execution and level of difficulty. Judges were also looking for a hard-to-define 'WOW' factor that sets winners apart from the many excellent contenders. This award is shared by everyone in the DISC design, development and production teams who worked hard to create that 'WOW' factor and to bring this special edition NEO package to life."

The centerpiece of the Interstellar Limited Edition Collector's Set for Walmart was a 4-panel NEO Media Package that housed 3 discs – 2 Blu-ray and one DVD. It also contained a 48-page full-color art book and a 3-inch wide IMAX film cell from a 70 mm film print. The NEO package created a surge of interest with consumers such that online and store sales instantly sold out. The signature design element of NEO that makes it a standout package

is its proprietary, patent pending PixelChrome™ multi-layered technology, which uses highly reflective lithographic material. It provides a super-glossy canvas on frameless art panels to showcase title graphics of Paramount's space adventure film, Interstellar.

The Gold Ink Awards are considered to be the most exacting competition in the printing industry, comparable to the Oscars. Each year, a distinguished panel of graphic arts professionals reviews entries from all over the world in more than 50 categories. During the three-day competition deliberations, they assess each one for excellence in printing and decorative processes, choice of substrates, finishing techniques, and overall appearance, quality and aesthetic impact. All Gold-level winning pieces will be on display at the 28th Gold Ink Awards Gala in Chicago on September 13th where attendees will vote live for the overall People's Choice Award for 2015.

Disc Spins Gold For Amazing Spider-man 2 Package

Nov 20, 2014

HAUPPAUGE, NEW YORK [November 17, 2014] – DISC, a leading source of specialty packaging solutions for more than 40 years, announced today that it received three awards from the New Jersey Packaging Executives Club (NJPEC) for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 package, produced for Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE). The company’s NEO® blu-ray® media package garnered two Gold Awards, one for graphics and the other for promotion, and a special award for technical merit in NJPEC’s annual Package of the Year competition.

"We are delighted that a panel of our packaging peers at NJPEC has chosen to honor the graphics and package design for The Amazing Spider-Man 2," said Don Sinkin, chief executive officer for DISC. "Our NEO media package was introduced to the market less than a year ago and has received acclaim from both the entertainment industry and consumers. This acknowledgement is a testament to the talents of our creative and production teams as well as those at Sony Pictures."

The NEO package is the centerpiece of a special SPE Spider-Man promotion offered exclusively through Best Buy. It includes a comic book, full-color poster, an "Electro" pad that lights up, and other collateral. Initial reaction was so powerful that it sold out instantly.

"Sony provided the essential graphic assets from the film, which we embellished with lightning bolt imagery to accentuate the energy of Electro, Spider-Man’s nemesis in the film," said Shane Rossiter, DISC’s LA-based creative director. "We used the lightning graphics to dramatic effect on each panel, especially on the panoramic 4-panel inside spread." The graphics took full advantage of NEO’s multi-layered technology to accentuate the power of the imagery.

DISC SPINS GOLD FOR AMAZING SPIDER MAN 2

"The overall effect was very dramatic and exciting," added Richard Roth, chief strategy officer for DISC. "The package exceeded Sony’s expectations for powerful, innovative packaging that would create a buzz among fans of the Spider-Man series. We couldn’t be happier to receive this validation."

The New Jersey Packaging Executives Club (NJPEC) was founded in 1962 to promote packaging and packaging professionals who work or live in New Jersey. This year’s winners will be honored at NJPEC’s annual Package of the Year banquet on November 20, 2014. For more information on DISC products and services, please visit www.discgraphics.com

Disc Wins Graphic Design Award For Neo® Media Package
Featured in Graphic Design USA's Annual American Graphic Design Awards

HAUPPAUGE, NEW YORK [October 14, 2014] – DISC, a leading source of specialty packaging solutions for more than 40 years, announced the first award for the company's patented NEO

Blu-ray disc® package – the Certificate of Excellence in the Annual American Graphic Design competition from Graphic Design: USA. In its 51st year, which the magazine has designated the "Year of the Designer," this prestigious awards program recognizes the best work of creative professionals in every area of the graphic design community. The DISC NEO promotional package was selected in the packaging category for its dramatic and compelling graphic design and innovative treatment of stock visuals.

"We are more than ecstatic to receive this accolade from our peers in the design community," said John Rebecchi, senior vice president, marketing & business development and director for DISC. "It is especially gratifying to have our superb design and production teams lauded for their creativity and production savvy in showcasing the unique beauty and high-tech production values of our NEO package in its inaugural year."

Creating the right visual images for the NEO package was a complex process. "The key was to suspend belief so that the graphics looked like movie art, not a promotional package," said Shane Rossiter, DISC's LA-based creative director. "The images convey a powerful cinematic narrative that projects a sense of adventure, mystery, sexiness, and sheer beauty. We combined serial stock photos to tell the story, starting with the back shot of the motorcyclist on the cover to reflect forward action and drama, emphasizing the chrome 'detailing' created by the package's highly reflective material. The package opens to reveal two helmeted 'characters' – created by dropping stock facial images into a helmet photo – to engage the viewer. The inside panel 'revealed' a panoramic image of speed and light traveling into a distant future." The circuit panel images on the back emphasize the digital, futuristic character of the multi-disc package.

DISC Wins American Graphic Design for NEO Page 2

DISC's technical expertise provided the necessary "pop" to sell the story. "Our production quality had to mirror the high standards of the major film studios," said Rossiter. "We took full advantage of NEO's patent pending PixelChrome™ multi-layered technology to achieve that goal. Key areas of the white layer were removed to reveal the metallic layer for the chain, brake disc, muffler, side mirror, and other chrome details of the motorcycle."

"The final result," added Richard Roth, DISC's chief strategy officer, "reflected the creativity and superior production standards our home entertainment customers have come to expect from DISC. Industry and consumer reaction has been phenomenal. This award from GDUSA is very gratifying."

The American Graphic Design Awards was established by Graphic Design: USA shortly after this news magazine for the creative community was launched more than five decades ago. The best of this year's American Graphic Design winners will be showcased in GDUSA's November/December issue in print, online, via email, enewsletter and social media, and in the magazine's new iPad App.

Disc Granted Patent For Neo® Media Package
Innovative Blu-ray Disc® Packaging Already Making an Impact

HAUPPAUGE, NEW YORK [October 14, 2014] – DISC, a leading source of specialty packaging solutions for more than 40 years, announced today that it has been granted a U.S. Patent, as well as a Patent in China, for NEO – the innovative Blu-ray disc® package it introduced earlier this year. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) of the People's Republic of China have granted the patent less than one year since DISC filed the provisional patent application.

"We are very excited to receive a patent in both the United States and China for NEO so quickly," said Don Sinkin, Chairman of the Board and CEO of DISC. "This innovative package represents the efforts of the best creative minds in our company. Our experts in several disciplines have worked extremely hard over the past two years to develop a standout package that promises to be a game changer for the delivery of media titles in film, video games and music."

DISC Chief Strategy Officer Richard Roth agrees. "NEO is an example of advanced design coupled with high technology to deliver a powerful result that resonates with our customers. The NEO patented design presents a sleek, modern stage to spotlight a title's evocative message, graphic excellence, superior performance, and sheer beauty. Industry reaction has already been fantastic. Several major film studios have begun to use NEO to launch new collector's editions for current and archival releases. In one instance, an exclusive special edition of a film sold out immediately!"

NEO offers a unique and dynamic showcase for the art assets of film, video game or music releases. Its frameless, super-glossy panels provide a seamless canvas for title graphics. It opens to reveal two internal panels that in turn open to present 2, 3, or 4 discs embedded in printed cavities and secured by a unique retention method. Strong, hidden magnets provide a soft, yet secure closure.

DISC Granted U.S. Patent for NEO Page 2

An integral part of NEO's innovative appeal lies in its revolutionary lithographic material, PixelChrome,™ developed by Shane Rossiter, DISC's LA-based creative director. This patent pending material provides a highly reflective substrate built as a multi-layered composite that required custom-built fully robotic assembly machines to rapidly compile, bond and finish each package.

"Consumer reaction to the NEO package echoes that of the industry," Roth added. "Media packaging gurus and fans in the blogosphere and on YouTube have been very active. Comments have ranged from 'Awesome,' 'Amazing!' and 'My new addiction' to 'It's the coolest blu-ray case ever!' You can't ask for more."

Disc Launches Neo™ - A Visionary Media Package
Collector's Packaging Delivers Innovation & Power for Media Titles

HAUPPAUGE, NEW YORK [December 2, 2013] – DISC, a leading source of specialty packaging solutions for more than 40 years, announced today the introduction of its newest packaging innovation: NEO™. This dynamic, patent pending Blu-ray disc® package is a visually stunning, sleek alternative to traditional special packaging. Designed for collector-level Blu-ray disc® products, it answers the call for new, advanced, contemporary packaging for multi-disc film, video game and music compilation releases.

According to DISC Chief Strategy Officer Richard Roth, "In the 37 years since the introduction of the digital disc for delivery of various media, there has never been a package that brought together performance, graphic excellence, superior quality, and sheer beauty in a single form, until the NEO package. The NEO package makes a dynamic first impression that deepens as every detail is examined. It has an incandescent visual impact at retail, enhanced with high perceived value deriving from the combined weight, strength and tactile appeal of the package."

The NEO package's frameless, hyper-glossy art panels provide a seamless presentation ground for title graphics. The current package is designed to hold two discs in embedded printed cavities using a unique retention method that is at once robust and unobtrusive. A major functional component to safeguard the contents is the hidden magnet that maintains a secure, yet soft closure. "The NEO package was conceived as the Porsche of media packaging, and it is," added Roth.

The NEO package includes a revolutionary lithographic material, PixelChrome™, developed by Shane Rossiter, DISC's Los Angeles-based Creative Director in early 2013. This patent pending design incorporates highly reflective substrates in a multi-layer composite – much

packaging with an unprecedented finish. R&D demanded a high level of precision, incorporating custom-built, fully robotic assembly machines to rapidly assemble, bond and finish each package. Microscopic hinging technology was employed to allow the package to repeatedly open and close without failure.

"Industry response to the NEO package has been phenomenal," said Donald Sinkin, chairman of the board and CEO for DISC. "Its minimalist design, luminous persona and many other value-added components powerfully enhance the art assets of our clients' titles."

A vitally significant benefit is the short 4 to 5 week lead time and domestic production, allowing for timely replenishment of titles with strong street activity. With shipping cycles of 2 to 5 days, depending on the destination, clients have far greater flexibility and opportunity to maximize sales, complemented with superior design and enhanced consumer appeal. The NEO package is now available in a 2-disc Blu-ray format. Three and four disc versions will be available in late Q1 2014.
